Baltic Sea Region Territorial Monitoring System

Migration - General description

In order to demonstrate the analytical capacities of the monitoring system with regard to individual themes, the case of migration was selected by the stakeholders of the project. This thematic scope was designed as an exercise for the whole BSR (as opposed to a complex/detailed exercise on a low geographical level), hence being based on regional data at NUTS-3 level.

The contextual focus of this test is the extent that migration plays in achieving territorial cohesion at multiple levels within the BSR. Migration is thus analysed both in absolute as well as in relative terms.

Utilising multivariate techniques, migration data is also cross-analysed with other variables from the monitoring system in order to establish the underlying forces of migration patters.

This exercise validated the degree of the monitoring system’s ability to accurately depict current patterns and dynamics of migration in a thematic scope.
